Deer Crossing is a small trading post offering a selection of unique handcrafted medicine bags.

Each bag is in itself a small, powerful poem in deerskin and beads, ideal for the safekeeping of things that hold special significance to you – including your dreams.

A medicine bag is a Sacred Bag for your most sacred objects that help preserve your personal space.  This will also in most case's hold your herbs and items of the earth that help you to walk in Balance. You would wear this or keep it close to you at all times never getting to far separated.

It helps you focus your thoughts, your intentions and your prayers. It can, like the pot where good food is slowly cooked, be an incubator for your dreams. A place where beautiful things grow or are attracted.

 

The word "medicine" in this context derives from the European explorers who traveled the vast North American Continent. They called the generous wisemen and wisewomen they met "medicins", physicians, healers. The deepest meaning of the word "healing" is to become or make whole, to restore balance, to find your place in the whole that is all of us. And so, the concept of the "medicine bag" is universal. It appears in some form or another among all indigenous peoples on this planet

Most traditional Native American people wear them to this day and depend upon them to help protect and heighten their own awareness of the universe around them.

A long time ago, about 1100 years before Christian time reckoning, there lived a woman in Denmark. She was a priestess and a wisewoman. Several thousand years later the mound in which she was buried was excavated. Among the findings was a small beautiful box sitting in her belt, decorated with a sun disc and containing objects such as the claw of a lynx, the larynx of a raven and a twig from a rowan tree. This was a medicine bag. The objects in it were “tools of her trade”, reminders of and connections to her spirit helpers, lynx, raven and rowan.

You don’t have to call yourself anything fancy such as priest or priestess to have a medicine bag. In your present state as a Human Being, a medicine bag is simply a container for objects and ideas that help you walk well in this world and Re-mind you of your true purpose in Life.
